Do I need a diagnosis before I can get any services?

No. You can ask for an evaluation without one.

Waiting for a diagnosis first is one of the most common ways families lose months. School eligibility is a separate decision from a medical diagnosis, and you can start the school process now.

Do this week

  1. Send the referral letter now. Do not wait for an appointment to come through first.
  2. If you already have reports from a doctor, send copies and keep the originals.
  3. If you are also waiting on a medical appointment, that process runs on its own. Neither one has to finish before the other can start.
