Do I have to sign the IEP at the meeting?

You can ask for time to read it before you agree to anything.

You are a member of that committee, not a guest at it. Asking for a copy to review is normal and reasonable. If you are unsure about something in it, one of the free organizations at the bottom of this page will read it with you at no cost.

Do this week

  1. If you are handed a document to sign, you can say you want to take it home and read it.
  2. Read two parts closely: the goals, and the services page — which service, how often, how long, and who delivers it.
  3. Send your questions to the team in writing, so the answers come back in writing.
