Do I have to pay for any of this?

Not for anything written on the IEP. That is the district's obligation, not a favor.

Evaluations, the services listed on the IEP, transportation when the IEP requires it, an interpreter — all free to you. Families routinely pay out of pocket for things they are already owed.

Do this week

  1. Write down every service you are paying for right now, and what each one costs you.
  2. For each one, check whether it appears in your child's IEP.
  3. For anything that is in the IEP, ask the IEP team in writing what the district provides and how.
